In the meantime, I have plenty of "painterly" techniques to work on.

On the reflections, I did make sure that there was a complete environment surrounding the scene, so there was something to reflect in every direction. Maybe not something plausible, but something, nonetheless. 8^D*

Oh, and thanks for the nudge on HDR images-- I'm pleased to find that the recent versions of IrfanView can read the .hdr format, which greatly expands the set of available images for plugging into an UberEnvironment2 light, etc. For starters, there's the Smart IBL site, and I'm sure the usual freebie sites have some too.Gnabbisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15480781325368111308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7891307.post-81191987604265482522013-04-05T11:08:02.123-07:002013-04-05T11:08:02.123-07:00Hey - just wanted to let you know that I was once ...Hey - just wanted to let you know that I was once exactly where you are now, running into the limitations in the Daz Studio render engine but having an ambition to crank more out of it.

From here, there are two ways of progressing:
1) Reality2 as a bridge to LuxRender
or
2) Moving to Carrara or an even more advanced program.

Both will let you make images with a whole other level of realism, light-wise.

If you want a pointer for Daz Studio: Use an HDRI-probe to give the reflective surface some light variation to pick up.

See you around, and have a look at my own blog if you like. There'd be two items I'd have to figure out:

1. How to edit the .dsa file so it's not specific to a particular surface name, like 'default', 'cloth', '3_hip', and so on. I think I've got a lead on this.

2. Which runtime/textures/wherever folders we would have in common. I have a remainder-rack copy of Poser 7, so I could use texture images from there, provided you've told DAZ Studio to use your Poser runtime(s) too. (Always a good idea anyway.) I could also use whatever runtime/textures images came with DS 4.5 too.Gnabbisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15480781325368111308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7891307.post-56691912593992230652013-02-20T05:56:51.291-08:002013-02-20T05:56:51.291-08:00Thanks for the pointers on how to use Shaders in D...Thanks for the pointers on how to use Shaders in Daz ^_^

Gotta admit, though, after all these years of using Poser I've gotten lazy (now I have to get 'recepies' for each metal surface instead of just 'one click' materials :-( ).Chup@Cabrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07251437260952396688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7891307.post-26651830265686281312012-03-01T04:08:30.195-08:002012-03-01T04:08:30.195-08:00I love the "favourite place" one.
